Cheyenne in Once upon a time in the West has to be one of my favourite film characters ever.

No idea about my favourite gunfight but love a western, although I only watched Hang 'em High and The outlaw Josey Wales for the first time recently. Seen the more popular ones a few times each, loved watching the man with no name trilogy when I was a kid.

Any thoughts on 3:10 to Yuma?

True Grit, John Wayne version. Horse mounted shoot out, towards the end of the film, plus a wonder shot from Glenn Cambpell.

Quick Mike taking a shit at The Bar T. In Unforgiven. Talk about getting done with your pants down.
But on a serious note. Bronson and Fonda at the end of Once Upon a Time in the West. Peak Morricone and Leone.

Good shout Alf. Brutal film when you think about it, no real good guys in that., No-one falls off a roof "forwards" after being shot in that one!

Clint’s William Munday ? character in Unforgiven. The scene and gunfight was, according to Clint who directed, scripted to be realistic since most Western movies gave a romantic view with gunfighters shooting accurately and hitting 5 blokes in a few seconds etc. Unforgiven showed the best gunfighter was one that could roughly shoot straight from a few feet. Bloody, brutal and no heroics

Some great calls, there. I might quibble with The Wild Bunch because, fabulous though it is, it's more of a pitched battle than a gunfight in the accepted sense.

Shane is a great call (and movie) and the Sergio Leone westerns' finales are all superb.

Along with those must go High Noon: Gary Cooper, four against one, a stable full of fire-crazed horses, Dimitri Tiomkin's music, an assist from Grace Kelly, Frank Miller dead, the tin-star mic-drop moment and the closing song, Do Not Forsake Me, Oh My Darling... Perfection.

There were several in Tombstone, but surely the winner has to be via Clint Eastwood in something?

Lol

I think my favorite has to be Alec Baldwin in Rust. The realism was beyond

Shouldn't this be on the worst gunfight in a western thread

Not a gunfight, but fantastic scene nonetheless.

'It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. To take away all he's got, and all he's ever going to have'.

One of Clints finest scenes.

'Once Upon a Time in the West' best western ever for me, excellent cast brilliant Morricone music and just loved the way Bronson disposed of his Harmonica!
